Dr. Richard B. Marcus is a licensed psychologist with over 30 years professional experience, spending the last 20 years working with senior level executives. He has maintained an independent business psychology/executive coaching consulting practice for the past 12 years. During that time, he has consulted to multiple organizations (for-profit and non-profit) locally and nationally on talent management issues relating to executive assessment, executive development and succession planning.
From 1998 – 2003, Dr. Marcus worked full time as senior level consultant for Manchester Inc., an outplacement and HR consulting subsidiary firm of the MPS Group, a NYSE company. At Manchester, along with his delivery responsibilities, Dr. Marcus took on various management assignments including running an outplacement delivery office, serving as a Regional Director for Consulting and, from 2001 through 2003, serving as National Practice Leader for Executive Coaching. In that capacity, he built Manchester’s global network of coaches, and designed, implemented and managed executive coaching programs for many of Manchester’s Fortune 1000 clients. Prior to joining Manchester, Dr. Marcus was Senior Psychologist / Principal at Millard Consulting, a regionally-based outplacement and organizational consulting firm and still earlier, he was a Consulting Psychologist for Hay Career Consultants, the outplacement division of Hay Associates, Philadelphia, PA. Prior to focusing full time on business psychology and executive coaching, Dr. Marcus worked as a clinical psychologist. In 1981 he founded and owned Interpsych Associates, a regionally based behavioral healthcare company serving as CEO until it was sold in 1994.
In addition to his work as an executive coach, Dr. Marcus’ areas of professional expertise include: competency based executive selection processes, senior executive career reappraisal and opportunities management, designing and implementing talent management and succession planning programs, team facilitation and working with closely held, family owned businesses. Dr. Marcus has lectured nationally on various professional development topics.
Dr. Marcus received his BA in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the Three Year Clinical Program in Family Therapy from the Family Institute of Philadelphia. He has served on several non-profit boards including: The Greater Philadelphia Senior Executive Group (elected member) 2012-2013, chairing its Human Capital Management Subgroup 2009- 2011 and Program Committee – 2014-15 and Governance Committee – 2013, 2014,2015; The Philadelphia Human Resources Planning Society (PHRPS) (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013) 2008-2009 Leadership Forum co-chair, 2011 Sponsorship co-chair, 2012-2013 Program Co-chair and Nominating Committee Chair – 2015. He currently serves on the board of The Pathway School in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (2011-2014) and as it’s Board Secretary (2013 – 2015).
Last, Dr. Marcus serves as an Executive Coach for the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School MBA Program and it’s Advanced Management Program.
