Executive Coaching and Consulting Practice
Dr. Richard Marcus is a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of professional experience, spending the last 25 years working with senior-level executives. He has maintained an independent business psychology/executive coaching consulting practice for the past 20 years. During that time, he has consulted with multiple organizations (for-profit and non-profit) locally and nationally on talent management issues relating to executive assessment, executive development, and succession planning. In addition to his independent coaching/consulting practice Dr. Marcus has worked for the past 8 years as an Executive Coach at the University of Pennsylvania working (a) with participants in its AMP UP leadership development program (2019 – current) and (b) at its Wharton School where he coaches MBA and Executive MBA students as well as executives participating in several of its Executive Education certificate programs (2014-current).
Professional Expertise
In addition to his work as an executive coach, Dr. Marcus’ professional expertise areas include competency-based executive selection processes, senior executive career reappraisal, and opportunities management, designing and implementing talent management and succession planning programs, team facilitation, and working with closely held, family-owned businesses. Dr. Marcus has lectured nationally on various professional development topics.
Professional Journey
From 1998 – 2003, Dr. Marcus worked full time as a senior-level consultant for Manchester Inc., an outplacement and HR consulting subsidiary firm of the MPS Group, an NYSE company. At Manchester, along with his delivery responsibilities, Dr. Marcus took on various management assignments, including running an outplacement delivery office, serving as a Regional Director for Consulting, and, from 2001 through 2003, serving as National Practice Leader for Executive Coaching. In that capacity, he built Manchester’s global network of coaches and designed, implemented, and managed executive coaching programs for many of Manchester’s Fortune 1000 clients.Before focusing full-time on business psychology and executive coaching, Dr. Marcus worked 13 years as a clinical psychologist.
Education
Dr. Marcus received his BA in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the Three-Year Clinical Program in Family Therapy from the Family Institute of Philadelphia.
